Saturday Night is Movie Night

In Disney's 1960 version, this happily shipwrecked family leads the life every child dreams of. The Swiss Family Robinson live in a fantastic treehouse that they build themselves, and have races riding their ostrich, zebra, and two massive Great Danes. They use rescued scraps from their ship and the bounty of the island to make ingenious, machines. (With the water slide and the swinging vines, the whole island looks suspiciously like a Disney theme park.) As if all that weren't enough, there's a tremendous pirate gun battle and sword fight, complete with elaborate booby traps.
Rent this great Disney film and enjoy it this weekend with your family-Little imaginations still need stirring-This movie is a classic that does not need modern special effects.

She Wanted New Boots

We came into the store this morning and Little Sister had rebelled against her lack of shoes. We found her in the dressing room wearing our pink cowgirl boots. She was on top of the bench situated in front of the mirror admiring her boots. We think that little Samantha gave her some ideas yesterday when she was shopping at Jellybeans.

Sometimes Less is More

When a girl is wearing her pink rainboots from Jellybeans, she doesn't need anything else to be fashionable. Hannah loves to dig up the side yard with her Melissa and Doug gardening tools. She may go shirtless but she will never be caught gardening without her Bella Butterfly rainboots from Melissa and Doug. See all of our Sunny Patch Garden accessories at www.shopjellybeans.com.

Don't Stew About Supper-Try This

OK Girls, Here is an old standby recipe that I have been preparing for years. Put it in the oven and forget it for 5 hours. It is such a nice feeling to come home after a busy afternoon of ball practice and dance lessons to warm comfort food.

5 Hour Beef Stew
2 lbs stew beef
2 carrots, peeled and sliced
3 potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, cut into strips
1 cup mushrooms
1 cup frozen green peas
1 can tomato soup
1/3 can water
Place stew meat in the bottom of a heavy Dutch oven. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper and your favorite seasonings. Layer potatoes and carrots on the meat, Season again. Layer onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms on top. Add frozen peas. Pour can of tomato soup over all and top with 1/3 soup can filled with water. All vegetable ingredients are estimates. Use more of your favorite veggies and omit any that you don't like. But, this blend is very colorful and tasty. Bake in a 275 degree oven for 5 hours. Serve with Pillsbury Crescent Rolls to dip in juice!

Book Of The Month

I stayed up late last night finishing this new book and 1st novel by author Kathryn Stockett. It is beautifully written book about relationships between white children and their black maids during the 1960's when racial tensions were high. Skeeter, has just graduated from Ole Miss and returned home to Jackson, Ms with no job prospects in sight. She is sadly surprised that the maid who raised her is no longer with the family. With wide open eyes Skeeter realizes that she never thanked Contstantine. Through the eyes of Skeeter, and two maids, Minny and Abileen, life as "the help" is revealed.
My fondest memories are of Essie Mae, who took care of me as a little girl, and later "Queen Esther" who worked for my mother through my elementary years. I knew they had families, but never knew their last names or wondered who watched their children while they were watching me. My girlfriends and I would walk home from school every day for lunch and Queen Esther would have hamburgers and french fries, complete with homemade pie for our lunch. I don't know if we ever said thank you. I hope I did!

It's been really cold in Florida for two weeks now. Emma came shopping with her mom all bundled up in her Peaches 'n Cream leopard trim coat and hat. We have had a whole week of weather that was not great for our sunny image or the fruit growers. I heard on the news last night that Friday should be back up in the 70's before the next blast hits. We still have some coats and jackets for our last minute cold weather shoppers. Best of all, they are 30% off.
