Jellybeans In Manhattan

This past week I headed to New York to help Amy get her new apartment organized and ready for a productive semester. It always amazes me the way that New Yorkers shop. Delivery is always free with a small purchase and the delivery boys usually beat us back to the apartment with our food or purchases. Bed Bath and Beyond and The Home Depot are multi level stores and your shopping cart rides an excalator right beside the people one as you travel between floors. I do know that if I lived in NYC I would not have to diet-we walked miles each day-just between stores. It is too bad that small town America is not more friendly to walkers. If I tried to walk to work, I would have to walk in the grass and probably get run over by a car. Maybe, I will start walking to the post office from Jellybeans (HaHa). Back to College at FIT

My little girl is back at college and beginning her fourth and hopefully final year at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Everyone in our small town wants to know what her school is like, how does she live in NYC, and what is she studying. FIT is a division of the State University of New York, therefore a public college with a private college mentality. Amy is majoring in Fabric Styling. She will be hopefully be hired by a designer or company to select designs for fabric applications and to make forecast for coming seasons based on a sense of current and future trends. I must admit that she does have a knack for this, and is a big help on Jellybeans buying trips. Her school has great alumni who are often on campus for special events and even speak in the individual classes. Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore, and Carolina Herrera all are alumni and actively involved in campus projects. The campus is right on 7th avenue in the Fashion District. Her apartment is one block off campus. She is on the 18th of 36 floors. Pictured is a view from her apartment. Also pictured is the campus-it doesn't look anything like Auburn's campus, where my other children attended.

Yesterday was the first day of school in our county. All of the moms have been busy shopping and mentally preparing themselves for this big event. Fall Market - Part 2

While we are at market in Atlanta, we usually save half of one day to snoop around for new and innovative gift ideas. We have found some delightful products this way, and we have also had some good laughs. My baby daughter is a student at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York. She meets us for every market and loves the adventure of searching for new products. She is pictured trying out a new bouncy ball that lets you rock your baby to sleep while exercising away those extra pounds and modeling a wild new diaper bag. Needless to say, these products are not in our store, but in a few years they may be best sellers and we will have missed the boat-or not.

Fall Market 2008

We just wanted to give you an idea of how we buy for the upcoming season at Jellybeans. In January, we traveled to the Altanta Apparel Mart, to buy our inventory for fall and holiday 2008. It is usually a three day trip and at the end of each day we are sooo tired that we try to calculate our expenditures before passing out, sometimes without dinner. We are at the market mid morning- I am not a morning person-but we stay until we are kicked out each evening. During the day, we visit the different showrooms and see the new lines from our favorite designers. We buy both trendy and traditional clothing, therefore we are all over the market. As we look at new pieces in each line, the showroom rep displays the entire collection on a grid and we try to use time as efficiently as possible-usually in about three seconds-we give each piece a yeah or a nay. We are always looking for new and innovative designs and clothing that you will not be able to resist.
